Different Types of New York Teacher Certification

There are different types of certificates that one can get when applying for New York teacher certification. There are temporary ones like Initial and Provisional certificates. There are also more long term ones like Permanent and Professional certificates. Both of those though are also very different. There are also many other categories so a person needs to do research to figure out which certification is best for him or her. When one was starting out on the path of getting New York teacher certification, one may have had to choose to get an Initial or a Provisional certificate. Both of these are entry-level certificates. They do however have their differences as well. For starters, they both lead up to different results. The Initial certificate implies that one is going to follow up by then getting Professional New York teacher certification after a five-year period. The Provisional certification leads to the Permanent certificate and also lasts for a five-year period. Both of these choices concern classroom teachers but there are also differences. Also the Provisional certificate was discontinued recently and will most likely be a thing that people will need to handle in the future but it is no longer a choice when starting out.In the same way Initial and Provisional New York teacher certification differ so to do Permanent and Professional. They are both for classroom teachers but a Professional certificate is for School Building Leaders and Permanent is aimed at pupil personnel professionals. Also Professional New York teacher certification does not have the same duration as Permanent. Permanent certification, like the name suggests, lasts for life. Professional on the other hand is continuously valid with some provisions. It requires a certain number of professional development hours to be completed in a five-year cycle. Also the Permanent certificate is still a valid choice for people to pursue and has not been discontinued like its entry-level certificate. There are a number of other New York Teacher Certification programs available as well. Those are just the most sought after. There are a number of different certificates that are valid for different amounts of time. Some are valid for two years and some are valid for life. It all depends. There are also a number of transitional periods that a person may end up in. The transitional certificates in general last for three years. Coaching and Exchange certificates are even their own programs, and require their own amount of different certification. There is also a catch all categories for those that do not fall under the existing categories. For example: a person teaching a subject that is very specialized and is also unusual in a public school. A person seeking to teach a class on Native American language would need to get their New York Teacher Certification through this program, for instance.
