Learn Spanish in Six Months or Less

You can learn Spanish in six months or less. When traveling to Peru, or any Latin country, it would be in your best interest to at least have a working knowledge of the language. Even if you are on a packaged tour where everyone speaks English, you will be able to experience Peru’s culture and its people more intimately. This will enrich your experience.Due to grammar rules that have few exceptions Spanish is one of the easier languages to learn. You can learn Spanish in six months or less by following these guidelines:1) Immerse yourself in the language. The absolute best way to learn Spanish is to hear it and speak it all the time. There are several language schools that completely immerse you in the language. Often these schools have you stay at a host’s home for ample opportunity to speak and hear the language, and give you a couple of hours of lessons from an experienced teacher.2) Learn the 1,000 most commonly spoken words. All conversations use many of the same words over and over again. When you master the most commonly spoken words you will be able to converse in the language, even without knowing its grammar. Sure, you’ll be murdering the language at first, but the purpose of language is to understand and to be understood. You will accomplish both when you know the most common words with proper pronunciation. 3) Learn the most common phrases.Get yourself a good phrase book of the most common phrases used in Spanish. Learn them as they will help you tremendously in understanding and being understood. People speak in words and phrases. Learning phrases will also help you automatically learn basic grammar.4) Don’t concern yourself with grammar (at first).Don’t become self conscious when you speak the language. Your grammar won’t be perfect when you first start and you’ll never learn the language if you never speak it. Talk away without shame. At first you’ll be able to understand the language better than you can speak it. Babies and small children don’t study the grammar of their native language, but they understand and learn to speak it.5) Start thinking in Spanish.Write down the most common Spanish words and phrases on index cards with the English translation on the back. Keep these cards with you. Review them during any spare moment. Begin to think in Spanish. Replace any English words with Spanish words that you know. If you can say “how” in Spanish, for example, then don’t think “How are you?” Think “Como are you?” Soon most of those English words will be replaced by Spanish words.By following the advice in this article you’ll learn Spanish in six months or less. I was conversational in Spanish in five months without attending a school. Now I am very fluent in the language. If I can do it, you can do it too.
