A Masters in Teaching, Many Different Degrees

Getting your Masters in teaching is actually a vague statement. There are many different types of teachers after all. There are the teachers that everyone thinks of like middle school or elementary school teachers. Then there are more special teachers like language or science teachers that you may find in high school or college. There are also Masters degrees that a person can get in teaching people with learning and physical disabilities.Getting your Masters in teaching could mean that you are qualified to teach children in general. A person could go on to teach children in elementary school all the way to high school. Although in high school there are many more classes that need a teacher that has a better understanding of certain subjects, there are still many types of classes that a person with a Masters in teaching can teach. Health teachers for instance have a curriculum that will be specific to the school and will generally be about common sense things. One wont be explaining the complexities of amino acids or proteins when describing a healthy diet. There are however very many courses in high school that require a teacher with specific knowledge in order for the class to work. Any science or math teacher needs a specific degree in a science along with a Masters in teaching. Some schools are even so desperate for science and math teachers that the teaching degree is not even required when they are hired. Then there are classes that absolutely cannot be taught unless a teacher has a very specific under standing of the subject matter. Language classes for instance require that the teacher knows the language that they will be teaching. A Masters in teaching is just the icing on the cake compared to knowing how to speak two languages.Sometimes a Masters in teaching can be very specific as to how exactly. There are many students with all sorts of disabilities that require specific teachers to help them. Students with impaired hearing or seeing need teachers that are prepared for those students. Students with learning disabilities need teachers that are prepared for the type of special education that will be needed. A Masters in teaching can also be for a specific type of teacher that helps a student get through a period of their school life where their functioning is lower than average. For example, some students are dyslexic and need time to know how to adapt their reading. Others may have speech impediments that a speech therapist can help them through.
